The True South
In analyzing all of the literature and films that have been provided I have come up with a thesis for what seems to be portrayed as the south in these literary works of art. I have picked three pieces of work that all symbolize the basis of my thesis. These pieces of work are Cats of the Confederacy, and Dying for Dixie. In these literary pieces when the characters discuss what southern pride is to them they show certain aspects of racism. Southern pride seems to be portrayed as a hidden racial battle between blacks and whites. Southern pride is shown as a nice way of covering up true racist activity.
In the literary piece by Horowitz called Cats of the Confederacy you see some symbolization of this hidden racism. He talks to the civil war activists who seem to have a pride for the south because of the ancestors that fought in the civil war. When he talks to these people they do not mention racial problems or anything dealing with race, but it is later pointed out in the story how you rarely see , if at all, African Americans in their meetings. They are also very secretive about their meetings when it comes to other races besides whites. Horowitz also highlights this problem when he talks to the African American preacher about the way he feels about this southern pride among the whites in his town, and he makes a brief statement that says so much. He says that if there is no racial tension between the whites who celebrate their southern pride then why are they so secretive about it, and why do you see white people in this black church but you never see black people in the confederacy meetings.
In the piece called Dying for Dixie a lot of racial tension is protrayed. A man is killed for his display of southern pride. In this story you see the real side of southern pride. The hidden racist battle between blacks and whites is clearly shown in the piece of literature. A boy named micheal dies because he was hanging a confederate flag on his truck. His reasons for hanging this flag were totally different from the reasons he was killed for hanging this flag. He said that he hung the flag because it matched his truck. This may have been an incinitive to hide his real reason for hanging the flag whether it be for southern pride or racism, but either way he was killed for it. The boy that killed him was a young black male who did not really know the history of the confederate flag, because he was originally from the north, but he had heard about this flag from other blacks in the south who seen it as a form of hate towards blacks. This kid was not a normal black kid, but a rather troubled kid, who did not mind doingg bad things. When he saw this man driving in a truck that displayed a flage that he had been told was a symbol of hate towards his race it enraged him, and he killed the man. When the boy died he was seen as a martyer for southern pride, but the irony of this was the fact that he himself was not flying the flag for southern pride. As a result of his death the hidden battle of racism was unleached and blakcs and whites became more and more hostile towards one another.
In both of these pieces you can see the symbolization of southern pride being a hidden battle between blacks and whites. One thing that differs between the two of them is the extremity in which this symbolization is shown. In Cats of the Confederacy you see the hidden battle but the whites and the blacks have very little interaction with one another, and this is also a result of the racism hidden in southern pride, because the preacher argued about this interaction between them and how it resulted from southern pride. But in Dying for Dixie the blacks and whites do interact with one another it is just in a violent way. I believe that both of these pieces prove my thesis in different ways and aspects. This portrayal of the south is accurate, because there has always been a racial battle between blacks and whites when it comes to southern pride for years. Every year the intensity of this battle can be shown through violent interaction, or hidden through no interaction at all.
The south has always been portrayed as a region of racial tension between whites and other minorities, and these pieces of literature have further confirmed that. The south has been seen as a place that holds great pride in what and who it is and thet also is portayed in these pieces of literature. When you put those two things together you get southern pride along with a battle of racism. That is how the south is protrayed and that is how it ruely is when it comes to southern pride. So the question is answered southern pride is just the name for a hidden battle etween blacks and whites.

Responce to Dying for Dixie
I thought this peice of writing was very contriversal, and it raised a lot of racial issues that are still going on to this day. I believe Horowitz did a great job in the order that he put this story. He gave a little history about the town at the beginning, and then towards the middle he starts to get into what happened with Micheal's death. He talks about how the town had been divided in a war between blacks and whites over the confederate flag, and whether the flag should stay as the school mascot or not. As a result of thee arguing over this flag a lot of racial tension rose, and blacks were beginning to speek out and wear things advertising malcom X. The KKK memebers started to recruit people, and town hall meetings were being held, but the death of micheal caused the greatest uproar of all. Micheal was killed by freddie a black male, and freddie was charged with felony charges. Horowitz talks about the two young men, and discovers that they both were similar in charcteristics, and he saw this as not just a cause of racial tension, but a cause of two young teenage boys clashing egos. Horowitzs revals through his writing his sympothy for both young men at the end of the chapter when he talks to both of their families, and you get to see the good in both of the young men. This chapter I beleive shows the consequences of rascism whether its a black man being racsist towards a white man or the other way around. It shows that it is wrong period, and it only leads to death or jail.
My autobiography for Dying for Dixie
Like I have talked about in my previous blog, I have dealt with rascism at school as a child. I can relate to this story because of it. I must say that it was harder for me to deal with than the blacks in this story, because I was the only black at my school, so I was kind of alone on this, and I did not know how to deal with how I felt, because I had no one to relate to. Because of the rascism in my school, and not having anyone to talk about it too I became depressed, because I did not understand why I was not accepted among my peers. One day I just began to cry. In the story I kind of sympothize with freddie and in some ways I dont. I understand how it feels to watch people walk around with confederate flags everywhere and expect for you as a minority to feel like its okay for them to do that because they are exercising their civil rights, but I would never resolve the way I feel about that by killing another person. The only way you can end hate is through love not more hate, and I think the young black boy in this story did not understand that, and took j=his anger out the wrong way. That is one thing that I did when I was in school. Instead of retaliating to the rascism I showed love towards the person who did it. I did let him know that the things he said were wrong, but I dont hold a grugde against him, and I forgive him, and I have more love for him than any other person at the school, even though he was the one that caused me the most pain. So dont try to overcome hate with hate.

My autobiography
I am from the south. I was born and raised in the south, and I have the accent to go along with it. I love the south with all my heart. I love the hospitality, and the family values that are greatly pressed in the south, and I love the upholding of the impportance of religion. There are many thhings that I stand for as a person that I get from my southern upbringing, but it is also hard being a minority in the south. I can say this because I am not looking from the outside in, but from the inside out and what I am saying is true. Over the years as a child I have been used to being the minority, and usually the only minority. I went to a private school that was basically all white when I was in middle school. Since I was the only minority there I was treated differntly. Many of thhe girls had boyfriends, but I didnt because I wasnt white. They shared a lot of commonalities that I didnt necessarily share with them, but I was determined to fit in anyway. But there was a young man who was very strong in his southern beliefs, and believed in upholding and supporting the confederacy to the fullest. Of course he woould talk to me and tolerate me, but what he was taught and his beliefs were against me because of my race. He didnt believe that I shoould have the chance to be anything inlife because of my race. I had to sit and listen to him sing songs about the south that totally degraded the racial background from which I had came from. This was supposed to be some one that loved the south just as much as I did, but they hated me. Therefore its hard for me to support the south and everything it stands for at times, because I am constantly reminded of how the south wnated me to be a slave.
Response to confederates in the attic
I thought this was an interesting chapter of this book. I think it depicted both views of the confederacy, but mainly the white views. This book depicted an analysis of the confederate wars and the confederacy, and how it effects peoples lives in the present day. It seemed to be that the south was the only region holding on to this war. They mentioned in the book that this is true, because the south feels as if they lost so many people, and the deaths remained unknown, so they search and search for their dead ancestors as away to restore the whole in their hearts. Some of them feel as though they are still soldiers on the battlefield, and that Southern people are born fighters. The people in this book live their lives for the confederacy and their history. I believe that it is great to understand your history, for a man that does not know his history can not possibly predict his future, but I also believe in learning from your history to have a better future. not reveling in the past, and doing nothing towards your future. That causes you to become stagnant and I believe that that is where a lot of people in this book are right now. I love the south, but I dont think I want the people in this book representing who I am as a person, when in all actuallity they did not believe my ancestors were people in the first place.

Observation#3 Bus Riders
On my second bus ride I got on the bus and it wasnt very many people on this bus. So I decided to get a seat at the very back to make it easier to observe everyone. I sat for a while and not very much was going on people were just sitting and starring out the windows. I noticed that on this bus there were a lot of older people so I knew that this bus would probably be going to a neighborhood somewhere off campus. At the next stop which seemed to be the last stop on campus all of the younger people who seemed to be students boarded off the bus. I watched as this young man struggled to get off, because there were news papers on the floor of the bus and he almost tripped on them and dropped his stuff. No one really bothered to help him, but they all made sure they thanked the driver for the ride. I found that very ironic. I was left on the bus with three other adults The driver drove and the riders all got off at different stops. The driver noticed me at the back of the bus and she had come to the end of her route so she just assumed that I was lost and let me stay on the bus. We got to our next stop and the driver picked up an older lady. She seemed to know the driver because she ran up to the bus saying hey and very excited to see the driver for her daily ride on the bus. She got on and they quickly began to start a conversation about the weather. Then we came to the next stop and an older man got on. I guess he knew the woman and the driver because he quickly joined into the conversation. They all three continued to talk but conversation ceased when other people boarded the bus, and it started to fill up. I noticed that older bus riders are more apt to make friends and talk on the bus than younger bus riders.

Observation #1 Bus Riders
I sat at the bus stop waiting for a bus to get on. I didnt wait for very long because I didnt really have a preferred bus so I jumped on the first one that came. As I stepped on the bus it was very crowded so I started toward the very back where it seemed to be one open seat left. I sat and watched as people piled on the bus, and many of them had to stand up. As we were riding along I noticed people talking with friends. I must have picked a great time to observe people on the bus , because I then began to notice this girl and boy who seemed to be starring at one another profusely. The girl was sitting down and the boy was standing. They did not say a word to one another they just starred at each other like they were each other long lost love. I found this very interesting and had never seen anything like this before in my life, so it was kind of weird. As people began to get off the bus at the next stop there was a seat left for the boy that was right beside the girl. So the boy sat down and the girl smiled and they continued to stare at one another. Next thing I know they were kissing! This was definitely out of the norm for me, and not a part of the bus riding culture so of coarse this interaction caused quite a few stare, and looks of un comfort. Well many hours was coming to an end and I was not wanting it to. This observational bus ride was definitely the best one I encountered. This one was to me an example of a disturbance in this micro culture, but this disturbance did not cause that much of a commotion except for people laughing and talking about the couple when they got off the bus.

Another Revision feeder 2.2
I decided to observe the micro culture of bus riders. Bus riders really seem to have a culture of their own when they are on the bus. They have cultural norms of what they do before and after they board the bus. I watched as people walk up towards the bus stop standing in some sort of line that puts the late comers farther away from the stop. As people wait they stand there listening to iPods or staring in space, but no one makes eye contact with anyone. Even people who seem to be acquaintances with one another will only say hello and goodbye. Everyone seems to have some sort of hidden agenda that does not require interaction with others around them. As the bus approaches people walk in all directions trying to come to the exact spot where they think the bus will stop. It’s like a game, whoever can guess where the driver stops wins. As people start to board the bus they are told to wait because passengers have to get off first. When they get on the bus people automatically search for a seat that is far away from other passengers. The goals are to not have any contact with another human being while on the bus. As people approach their stops they push the requested stop button, and get off of the bus with a polite thank you to the driver, who seems to be the only person they will show courtesy to while on the bus.
I hypothesize that bus riders tend to be anti- social people, and they are very goal oriented people who will not let anything distract them from where they are going.
This topic piqued my interest because I am a walker I like to see the scenery outside and the people as they interact with one another. I often wondered why someone would trade that to sit on a bus full of people who show no interest in others except for themselves and where they are going.

Feeder 2.2 Revised
Walking through the main area of social activity on campus, the pit can be an enlightening experience. You will see many different activities taking place that involve interaction with people. One activity caught my eye, and it was the pit preacher. The pit preachers consist of men in button down collared shirts with suspenders, and a large jug of water to keep then hydrated during these long hours of preaching. They have their own style of preaching that really has no boundaries to it. They often yell and use derogatory language towards the students all in a matter of trying to persuade the students to follow their religion. As I observed this I realized that their method of preaching was not very affective, and often caused students to become hostile towards the preachers. I encountered one situation with one of the pit preachers, and the preacher was accusing a man of being homosexual. He also decided to accuse the young man of being sexually abused as a child. This created a lot of animosity, and caused the young man to lash out at the preacher. The preacher walked away with a black eye. This incident is what piqued my interest for this topic. I realized how these preachers are trying to teach about a God of love, but are using hate to do so.
I hypothesize that if the pit preachers would use a different tone and style of preaching that is loving and kind towards students it will help them win people over to their religion. People do not respond positively to someone criticizing them in a negative and derogatory way.
This would be a very important research topic, because Carolina has dealt with many problems involving the pit preachers. There have been many altercations between the preachers and students, and some have ended in violence. If my hypothesis proves to be true then altercation rates between the students and the preachers will decline, and the preachers can be more successful in what they are trying to accomplish.

Hypothesis for feeder 2.2
Almost every other day as I walk through the pit I hear man yelling at me. He shouts out thing about going to hell if you don’t live right, and derogatory comments about masturbation and homosexuality. These men are called Pit Preachers. Sometimes I stop and listen to these men yell and debate with students. I find it quite entertaining but disturbing at the same time. I have noticed that these men have their own style of dress. They always wear some type of khaki pants with suspenders and a button down collared shirt. They always carry a large jug of water also. I never see them with just a regular water bottle and I don’t know why that is.
There was one time when I had a direct encounter with one of these men and I happened to be with a good friend of mine. My friend, who happened to be a male, and were walking through the pit, and he had his arm placed around my shoulder as we were walking and talking. The pit preacher did not like this so he stopped us, and asked us “are you two young people planning on getting married?” We stood there in shock, and looked at one another and laughed. We replied back with a no. Then he replied “ Well this young man should not be touching you in that manner if he doesn’t plan on marrying you”, and then he stared me in the eye and asked me if I was a Christian, and I stared at him back and replied yes I am with great confidence. He asked me how did I know that, and with another amount of confidence I politely responded and told him. So He then left me alone, but he started to bother my friend. Next thing I know I hear comments like “you are going to hell”, and “do you masturbate?” My friend was so upset, because he also was a Christian, and he was being accused of not being one, and treated like he had been found guilty of murder. This encounter made me upset, but it also intrigued me to find out more about this Pit Preachers.
I hypothesize that this group of men are men who have made many bad decisions in their lives, and have done many of the things that they accuse others of doing. They use their religion as a threshold to put other people down in order to make themselves feel better about the mistakes they have made in life. They follow this militant way of religion that no human being could possibly live up to which gives them more reasons to put others down.
This would be an important research topic, because Carolina has dealt with many problems involving the Pit Preachers. There have been many altercations between the preachers and students, and some have ended in violence. If Carolina can create a better understanding of these men then maybe we can come up with a better way to deal with them and how they interact with the students here on campus.

Disruption of observation #1
I decided to disrupt the norms of my bus ride this time, and I must say this was quite uncormfortable. As I approached the stop there was people already there waiting so I decided to skip in front of all of them and wait right in front of the bus stop. This didnt cause that much commotion, but I dont believe they were really happy about this. Instead of listening to an ipod or talking on the phone I stood there and just waited and watched people. And of course as I watched them I got no eye contact, except for one person who looked at me for a brief second, and then turned away quickly trying to pretend that I didnt see them looking at me.As the bus approached I was already ready and prepared to get on, and I jumped right on not waiting for any passengers to get off first. As a result of this the bus driver told me to wait next time. As I got on I picked a seat right beside someone else with a bus full of empty seats. This person seemed quite aggrevated, and I knew that they didnt want anyone to sit beside them because they had their bookbag in the seat next to them, but I made them move it. So I tried to strike up a conversation with this person that I had already made upset. This did not go so well. Every question I asked they responded with a short and quick answer and didnt bother to ask me any questions. The ride ended and I got off the bus without telling the driver thanks. I know for sure know one will ever want me riding on their bus.
Observation #1- The bus
I decided to observe the bus and how people act when they are taking the bus somewhere. I walked towards the bus stop, and as usually I stop and stand as I wait. While I was waiting I looked at the others who were waiting as well, and I observed how none of them made any eye contact with me. Some of the waiters were sitting on the bench and some were standing beside the bench. As each new person walked up towards the stop they assumed into some sort of line. I believe this is a norm for common courtesy. When someone gets to the bus stop before you you have to wait in a farther away position from the stop. I watched as people were listening to their ipods, talking on the phone, reading news papers, and studying notes for the test they were about to take. As the bus approached everyone became alarmed. They all got up and put their stuff together, and prepared to board the bus in an orderly fashion. As they were about to get on the bus the driver told them to wait, because people were getting off the bus. It is a norm for people that are getting off the bus to get off first before anyone else can get on. So they waited patiently for people to get off the bus and then they themselves got on. I observed how people anxiously looked for seats that were away from other people. Its like they dont want to be touched by anyone while they are on the bus. I also observed two girls that I knew were good friends but on the bus they did not act like it. They only said Hi and Goodbye to one another. I guess they had nothing to talk about, or maybe it was the bus. This is another behavioral norm on the bus , no talking unless you have too. I watched how people would push the requested stop buttons when they wanted the driver to let them off at a certain place, but I also noticed that at the stops where the most people got off like the union no one would push the button. As people got off of the bus mostly everyone thanked the driver for the transportation.

Pace Mentoring
Well I have discussed Pace earlier in my blog, and to catch you up if you didnt read that one. Pace is basically a program that I have been in this year, in which I mentor and tutor students who can not be in a public school setting. This whole year we have been having quite a bit of problems with communication and getting the kids enthusiastic about learning. We as an organization have been working hard on trying to fix these problems, but without cooporation from everyone we cant get anywhere. Well to make a long story short, because of all of these problems the program has now been suspended. I was soo upset about this because I know hjow far this program could of went with the right help. The leaders say the main reason it was suspended was because the students were dropping it, and plainly did not want to stay after school to do homework. So the leaders are working on ideas to fix this. I think that we should do some programs that are fun, and not just always talk about school and work when we are with the students all the time. In order to spark an interest in these kids we have to first understand what interest them, and apparently school work is not their interest or else they wouldnt be in the program in the first place. I know that in the end we have to help them do better with their acedemics, but we cant help them if that dont want to be helped. so what are we to do? because I really want to help these kids. I have grown to care about some of them, and its sad because all of them have the ability to succeed in life. The only problem is they dont know this and a lot of them dont have anyone in their lives to tell them this.
Event 1: Aids Benefit Concert
This past sunday I went to a Aids benefit dance concert. I really enjoyed this, because dancing is my passion. There was many different dance teams, and they came from all types of cultural backgrounds. We had Latin, Hiphop, Contemporary, Ballet, and even Bollywood! For those of you who do not know what Bollywood is it is a type of dance done in India. My favorite dance group would definately have to be the Bollywood dancers because I love the cultural aspect of their dance. Their costumes were soo beautiful, and made of these ellaborate colors that added soo much too the expressions of their dance. The host of the show was a character all on his own. He was an older man dressed in an Africen disheki gown that draped the floors. He was very loud and I guess he knew a lot about African history, because he used a lot of African terms. One of the things he did to help get interaction with the audience was he had this african phrase that basically meant a call for attention. The people would respond back with a saying that meant that they were listening and giving their full attention. I thought this was a great technique of insider/ outsider relationship because the host used his insed knowlegde of the African language to help engage the outsiders, which was the audience, in the show. Like I said I truely enjoyed the show and I cant wait to get on stage and perform myself.

Chris Brown, Im in shock
Well, if you havnt heard Chris Brown has been arrested for beating up his girlfriend Rihanna. I was soo shocked when I heard this, because he was such a sweet guy, and a lot of kids looked up to him. He always had this innocence about him when he was on camera, and I would have never thought that he would have hurt a fly, but I guess I was wrong. It was the night of the grammy awards and of course both Chris and Rihanna were supposed to be there, but I guess they had other plans. The tabloids reported that they had been fighting for a while, and Rihanna has been seen with bruises on her before, but I guess no one took it seriously until now. But this night was different, she didnt just come out of this with a couple of bruises she came out with blood all over her body, and even bite marks. I just could not fathom this in my mind, I mean beating a women is bad enough but biting her, thats just crazy!!! When I thought about it though I could see where Chris may have gotten this behavior from. He discussed on a talk show that as a child he had to see his mother get beat up by her husband, and as a result of that he was kind of scarred, but he also said that he would never treat a girl like his mother was treated. I really do wish that he would have thought about his mother before he layed his hands on Rihanna because now his career and maybe even his life, if he doesnt change, is ruined. As for Rihanna I hope that she is ok, and I hope that she doesnt blame herself for what she went through because it was not her fault, because no one deserves to be treated like that. They both will be in my prayers.
Rushing to frankllin
Okay honestly I wasnt reaally a basketball fan until I came to this school. I mean I like sports and everything But I never put soo much heart into one game until last night, the night of the DUKE and CAROLINA game. I had just got out of dance practice and I was planning on watching the game but I wasnt really thinking about it that much. On my way back to my room I called my friends and I heard all this noise in the background. People were cheering and yelling as if they had lost their mothers or something. So I decided to go watch the game with them. As the game progresses I find myself yelling, jumping , and screaming as well. I had never felt that way about a game before, and when then the clock hit zero, and we were ten points ahead I yelled and cheered for joy as me and my friends rushed out of the building for Franklin. Now me and my friends were not to keen on the idea of running all the way to franklin street from south campus soo we were planning on taking the p2p, but that plan soon changed. As we saw thousands of students running out of buildings and acting like animals, we of course, wanted to join in. We ran, and we walked, and then we jogged, and then we walked, and then we finished it off with a sprint, and finally we arrived. I was amazed by the craziness. My eyes had never seen such nonsense before in my life. I mean really, jumping over a fire on top of the fact that your drunk, this is not what I call safe. But all in all I had a blast even though I did not jump over a bomb fire, because I had on baggy pants and I kinda care about my safety.

MiscONcEption
I just recently tried out for the dance team called misconception. To give you a little background information on this dance team I will say that it is one of the most hardcore hiphop dance teams on campus, and they focus on promoting diversity among all ethnicities. But like I said I just tried out for this team at the beginning of the week and of course I did make the team in which I was very excited to find out , but I did not know what lied ahead. I thought that all my troubles and worries with this would be over with when I find out if I made the team or not. The first day of practice was great. The new people( me and others) learned one of the old dances to start the process of catching up with the current dancers on the team. The dance that we learned was quite difficult .... wait.... it was the hardest dance I have ever learned in my life !!! buuut I think im doing pretty good in the learning process and I have been practicing like crazy! because another thing that I found out on the first day of practice was just because you make the team does not mean you get to perform, I thought to myself " The whole purpose of making a team is so you can perform with that team ... right" But I guess in this case I was wrong. We learn all these dances and when there is a performance coming up you pick a dance or two that you think your pretty good at and you have to audition for that performance. Basically Im going to have to be on my toes at all times, because it would be really embarrassing when we have a performance and all of my friends are expecting to see me dance because I said I was on the team, and they dont see me on the stage... what will I do then. Sooo basically Im not going to let that happen im just about to work my butt off. If you hear that I passed out somewhere on campus you will know why.
Pace Academy
I am a mentor for this organization called Pace Academy. This organization sends mentors to a school which is also called Pace Academy. Pace Academy is a small school for kids who can not be in the public school system for various reasons like: discipline problems, pregnancy, learning disabilities, or if their parents just decide that they do not want their child in public school systems and feels that Pace would be the best option. I started mentoring at Pace at the beginning of last semester. Last semester was okaay but since this is a new organization there was a lot of communication problems between the members of the organization and the officials at the school. I was assigned a mentee and at the beginning everything was great. I was really getting to know her and I was helping her with her homework and her mother was even calling me to talk about her progress, but because of lack of communication I got stuck with no mentee towards the end of the semester. I kept seeing my mentee walking to the mall every time I was on my way to go tutor her, and I kept thinking to myself that she was skipping our sessions, and it wasnt like the sessions were that long so I became upset, and I felt like I had done something wrong to make her want to skipp our sessions. But the officials did not tell me that my work had payed off and the raeson why my mentee wasnt in the program anymore was because she was passing all of her classes. I was happy to her that but still upset at the lack of communication. Well now we have started a new semester with Pace and I have a new mentee, but I still have yet to meet this one because he did not come to school for our first session together so we will see how this one works out lol.

Hey guys I know you have all gotten the e-mail about the suspicious man walking around campus. They say he is a black male about six foot tall and short cut hair. They say he is really charming and tries to get people to come to a Bible study or something. I havnt encountered this man ye but I have heard from a lot of people who have encountered him, and they said the exact samething as the description, and they said he was extremely nice and charming. I also heard that this particular man snuck into some girls suite the other day. He suppossedly followed in behind her. I dont know exactly what happened after that but I was just warned not to let anyone that doesnt live in this building that I dont know in . I know a lot of people have started to feel comfortabe here and campus is starting to feel like home, but PLEASE lock your doors. I mean I know your probly waiting on your boyfriend to come by and dont want to seem to anxious by greeting him at the door because you had to unlock it, but lets try to keep safety before trying to look cool. So lock your doors at all times!!! And at night I would suggest locking your suite doors when everyone in your suite is asleep, because I have heard from friends that they have seen a suspicious man walking around at night so everyone should lock there doors, sooo you dont find a man hiding in your bathroom when you take your two in the morning pea. Ive said a lot and I dont wnt everyone walking around here scared or anything I just want yall to practice safety.

Yesterday was a really long day for me. I am sooo tired I never get any time to even sleep!! But I have been trying to get sn apartment in Odum and as you all may know getting an apartment here on campus is very slim as a freshman, but I had hope. So me and my friend were scheduled for an appointment and of course we were one of the last people to pick a place to live. Of course we didnt get the place we wanted and we had to room with other people that we dont even know. What was soo fustrating about this was the fact that there were a lot of spaces left but all of these spaces were saved for graduate students. I think this whole process is wrong and fustrating. They should make it where everyone gets a chance to live where they want too. I mean really what am I paying for? I am just hoping that there will be an opening made at the place where I want to stay. And I truely hope this process gets easier over the years like everyone says it does.

The Inaugeration
I watched the inaugeration today, and I must say that I was very pleased with our presidents speech. He is a wonderful man and I believe that he will help America come out of the slum it is in. One thing I noticed was the way he presented his speech and how I believe that it was quite different from past presidential speeches. This speech was uplifting and powerful and I believe that he will do everything in his power to uphold his promises.
Now the Inaugeration did have its flaws as well. One of them being the poem read by the women after obama's speech. That poem was horrible and the presentation of it was dreadfull. Unless there is some kind of new artistic way of reading poems that I havent been introduced to yet,( I dont know what this woman was thinking). Maybe the poem was just a little too deep for me to understand lol who knows.
Another flaw was the Rev. Lowery's speech. He made some good points, but the rhyme at the end I believe was offensive and unnecessary. He basically uplifted all other races accept for white people. We must realize that we cant fight descrimination with more descrimination.
